Community Companion at Brady Faith Center
Where will I serve? At a diocesan mission/neighborhood faith center in the Southwest side of Syracuse. Opportunities are also available to help at an urban farm, two community gardens, and a wider collaborative of parishes in the urban core if interested.
Who will I serve? Neighbors at all stages of life, mostly from Syracuse’s Southside.
What will I do? Support Brady’s programming and outreaches to maintain its character as a place where all are welcome, known, and cared for. Connect participants to community, resources, information, and pastoral care not just by waiting for them to come to you, but by going out to them as well.
What will my day look like?
- Support and/or participate in a community bike program that provides participants with access to transportation, exercise, social connection, a warm environment, and a hot meal three mornings a week.
- Meet neighbors where they are by walking the streets and visiting people in their homes with your supervisor to get to know the people in the community and see how Brady can provide support.
- Help tackle local food access issues through our urban farm, community gardens, and holiday dinner outreaches.
- Support day-to-day operational needs through administrative work such as coordinating rides for weekend ministries, assisting with communications, and providing a presence at the Center.
What gifts and talents will I bring and grow in? Flexibility, strong communication skills, creativity, and an ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
