WFW: Georgie of FC14 Syracuse

February 28, 2018

Georgie Asfoura, FC 14 Syracuse

Read how Georgie’s year of service with FrancisCorps influenced her to pursue a law degree.

A year with FrancisCorps transformed my conception of civic duty, especially regarding the quickening disappearance of affordable housing in my city – Columbus, Ohio. I was lucky enough to help shelter homeless women through my placement at the Dorothy Day House Shelter. Now, local housing development rates (unintentionally forcing people from their neighborhoods and homes) is an invitation to remember the homeless I served in Syracuse years ago. As I pursue a law degree amidst this back drop, my FrancisCorps roots challenge me to consider: what is the housing solution for my city, and how do I play a part in creating it?
