St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center has just become the latest partner with FrancisCorps! We are pleased to announce that the hospital run by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities will be one of the possible site for the FrancisCorps 15 Syracuse volunteers.
St. Joseph’s Hospital was founded by Saint Marianne Cope a member of the Sisters of St. Francis in Syracuse. Today the same community of sisters sponsors this health center which is an extremely valuable member of the Syracuse community. The hospital’s outreach to the community is widespread and makes a great impact, especially on the Northside of Syracuse.
The position at St. Joseph’s Hospital is brand new and still under development. At this point it seems that it will consist of a volunteer who will be a “Navigator” in the Emergency Department or in one of the community clinics. The role of the navigator is to assist patients to navigate the health care system and to keep them from “falling between the cracks”. This is a critical service for the poor and also for refugees who may not know how to get the health care they need.
This ministry site is open to all volunteers and would be of special interest to those who are interested in health care, social work or community organizing.
