We are pleased to announce that FrancisCorps X alum, Alexander “AJ” Lapoint has been hired as the new Assistant Director of FrancisCorps. AJ follows several other alums who have helped the friars keep FrancisCorps moving. A key difference this time is that this appointment is a permanent full-time position. AJ will assist in strengthening the administration of the program, help develop our relations with alums and donors and assist in supporting our volunteers. AJ’s experience as an alum, familiarity with the Franciscans and his years of campus ministry will serve him well.
Here’s a brief background on AJ in his own words:
Peace and all good!
It truly is a pleasure to rejoin FrancisCorps as the new Assistant Director. First a little about myself. I was born and raised in Plattsburgh, New York and attended Siena College, which is sponsored by the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province. There I received two Bachelor’s degrees, one in Creative Arts and a second in Mathematics. After my time at Siena I worked briefly in both higher education and theatre before deciding to spend a year with FrancisCorps as a volunteer. This was truly an experience that changed my life. While in FrancisCorps I assisted at the Assumption Food Pantry and Franciscan Northside Ministries. My experience in community and ministry was so powerful I considered formal vocation and spent the next year as a Postulant with the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province in Boston, MA.
After my experience with the Friars I went to work at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as a Resident Hall Director and eventually received my Masters degree from Boston College in Higher Education Administration where I concentrated in Catholic University Leadership and studied topics such as student development, theology, higher education organization, and pastoral ministry. I then moved into my most recent position as the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry at Mount Saint Mary College where I had the opportunity to walk with and minister to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students. During my time at the Mount, my wife, Rebecca and I, were married at the Franciscan Church of the Assumption in Syracuse on December 14, 2013.
I am now thrilled to rejoin FrancisCorps and humbly offer my experience and skills to help FrancisCorps continue to be the fantastic and life changing experience it is.
Some Fun Facts: While I was in FrancisCorps I was in an Improv Theatre Group at the Redhouse Theatre, I played competitive golf in high school for 5 years, I ran track and field in high school and ran cross country for two years in college, I have always been very active in theatre and participated in theatre in some way every year between 2000 and 2011 whether it be in a community, professional, or educational setting (I have acted, directed, run front of house, been a technician, and designed), I am an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
