Refugee Youth Worker at Northside Catholic Youth Organization (CYO)

The Northside Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) is an afterschool program run by Catholic Charities of Onondaga County.  The Northside CYO serves the low income families on the Northside of the Syracuse, primarily to refugee families. At the Northside CYO, students are provided with the tools and materials they need to develop their educational and social skills. The FC Volunteer will be responsible for one of two age groups (5-8 yrs or 9-12 yrs) and will organize and lead the afterschool programming. Volunteer opportunities at the Northside CYO include homework tutoring, life skill building and mentoring young refugee children.  The FC volunteer will not only take charge of their own youth group but will also be in charge of one of two teen programs which are split up by gender.  The FC volunteer has sometimes been involved in coaching soccer. This site would be suited for either a male or female student and would be of special interest to student interested in education, community organizing, physical education and social work.  A valid driver’s license is required for this placement site.
