Ana (FC 17) feeding the hungry!

Ana (FC 17) feeding the hungry!

FrancisCorps volunteers reflect deeply on the experiences they are having in service and in community.   In this reflection, Ana recognizes she provides more than just food to those she serves.

Ana is spending her FrancisCorps experience serving at the Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen.  The Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen is part of The Franciscan Church of the Assumption in Syracuse, a parish with a big heart!  There, a team of Franciscan Friars and Sisters, community volunteers and the FrancisCorps volunteer reach out to the community in many ways, including the Food Pantry & Soup Kitchen.

As a FrancisCorps volunteer at the Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, you will be working in a food pantry which serves close to 350-400 families per month and a soup kitchen which serves about 150-700 people per month.  The residents of the Northside can receive two daily meals from the soup kitchen window as well a monthly allotment of food that will support them and their families.  You will be responsible for receiving food donations, preparing and distributing food both via the soup kitchen and food pantry and training new volunteers.  At the Assumption Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen you will truly answer the call to feed the hungry!  The food pantry would be of special interest to volunteers interested in community organizing, hospitality, cooking and social work.

If you are interested in applying to FrancisCorps, visit our application page.  Our deadline is March 15!
