Our FrancisCorps volunteers (FC 14) were very fortunate to welcome the volunteers from Change A Heart, another franciscan volunteer program in Pittsburg, who were in Central New York for their Fall retreat on the Feast of Saint Francis weekend. It was also great to welcome Kelly Caddy the director of the program.
Over pizza and beer the new crop of volunteers were able to share their stories of these first few months of franciscan community living and service to the poor. The laid back Franciscan spirit was quite evident and everyone seemed to immediately feel at ease that the conversation flowed quite naturally.
Change A Heart is in a way our “sister” volunteer program as it is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities in Pittsburg. It’s these same sisters with whom we collaborate in ministry here in Syracuse. Sister Caryn Crook, our lead co-minister in Syracuse is a member of the Sisters of Saint Francis.
FrancisCorps and Change A Heart are both members of the newly formed Franciscan Service Network (FSN) which groups several Franciscan sponsored volunteer programs and experiences. FSN members are also part of the broader Catholic Volunteer Network. Visit FranciscanServiceNetwork.org for more information.
