Montserrat Corbera, is 22, and all her friends call her Monsy! She comes to Syracuse from Miami, FL and the University of Notre Dame where she was a Science/Pre-professional major. Monsy is fluent in Spanish and brings a wide variety of experiences and leadership skills from Notre Dame and her many trips abroad including a medical internship in El Salvador, and a medical training/translator experience in Nicaragua. She has also been a bilingual field case worker and camp counselor in Miami and a first aid services volunteer in South Bend. She hopes to be a physician in the future. Monsy will minister as an Assistant to the Staff at Franciscan Northside Ministries Poverello Clinic and the Assumption Food Pantry. “I believe that serving humanity and God within humanity is our responsibility and the purpose of life. My motivation stems from my compassion and from my desire to be self-sacrificing and alleviate the suffering of others. I feel so drawn to FrancisCorps’ ministry because it exemplifies the mission statement that I so strongly believe in, which is to praise God through our everyday actions.”
