As a FrancisCorps Volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital, you will act as a liaison between St. Joseph’s and their patient populations and neighbors. You will be engaged in St. Joseph’s education and outreach programming with a focus on the North and West Side neighborhoods, St. Joseph’s Hospital Primary Care Practice patient populations, Emergency Department visitors and/or the Health Home program. You will interact directly with and outreach to patients and neighborhood residents regarding patient resources and support available in the community. This ministry offers the opportunity to work closely with not just St. Joseph’s Hospital but also other neighborhood organizations such as local food pantries. Not will you build community with individuals but you will also work to also build relationships between organizations. This ministry site is open to all volunteers and would be of special interest to those who are interested in health care, social work or community organizing.
St. Joseph’s Hospital was founded by Saint Marianne Cope a member of the Sisters of St. Francis in Syracuse. Today the same community of sisters sponsors this health center which is an extremely valuable member of the Syracuse community. The hospital’s outreach to the community is widespread and makes a great impact, especially on the Northside of Syracuse.
