St. Francis College

There is one (1) placement available at St. Francis College for a FrancisCorps Volunteer. The volunteer must have a high level of proficiency in the Spanish language to work in Costa Rica.

Social Outreach Coordinator

St. Francis College is an institute that teaches students from pre-school to high school, and is run by the Conventual Franciscan Friars. As part of their education, the students participate in a service project in each grade level, which the FC volunteer helps plan and run. The project consists in visiting the chosen service site twice; once in the beginning of the school year and again at the end. Between visits, the students plan a project and do the necessary fundraising to make it possible. After the project is completed they spend time reflecting on the experience and evaluating its impact both on them and the population with which they worked.

In addition to being the Assistant Volunteer Social Outreach Coordinator, the FrancisCorps volunteer also works with a professor St. Franacis to run the afterschool volunteer club which is open to all high schoolers. Students have the option to tutor children in a local neighborhood church center, or visit the elderly in a home for seniors with terminal illnesses. It is completely optional and done outside of school hours. The volunteer makes the schedule, coordinates the students, and accompanies the students to the service sites.
