- Elementary Program:
The volunteer leads one of two age groups (5-8 yrs. or 9-12 yrs.) and plans activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, gym activities, tutoring and field trips. The volunteer is additionally responsible for maintaining rules and discipline, as well as driving kids to and from the center and establishing relationships with childrens’ parents, schools and other community resources. - Teen Program: The volunteer would be responsible for either the refugee boys or girls group. Teens are of mixed nationalities and have in past years included Sudanese, Somali Bantu, Afghani, Liberian and Ethiopian teens. The same responsibilities from the Elementary Program apply here.
- Soccer Coach: Every year the FC volunteer is responsible for the continuation of the CYO Internationals soccer team. The volunteer forms the team and fundraises to pay for equipment and league fees. With the help of assistants, the volunteer coaches the team, leads practice, transports kids to and from team activities, etc.
As done by all CYO employees, the FC volunteer will often be asked to pitch in with other programs and projects including the Preschool, Christmas Giving Program, and the Refugee Resettlement Program. The Youth Mentor will receive regular in-services offered by the Center and Catholic Charities as well as training on youth mentoring and tutoring skills, team building skills and organizational and stress management skills. Member will also receive a minimum of 4 weekend long enrichment programs (retreats) throughout the year.
