The Dorothy Day House is a neighborhood shelter for at risk women and children sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Syracuse Diocese. There is one (1) position available at this Center.
- Family Advocate/Counselor Job Description
- The Family Advocate/Counselor will develop supportive relationships with individuals and families.
- Assist in relocation from shelter through assessment, goal setting and emotional and practical support.
- Provide emergency counseling and crisis intervention for both groups and individuals.
- Assist in general operation of the shleter, including intake responisbilities.
- Assist in locating and securing housing.
- Assist in moving and establishment of households...help with securing donations and deliver furniture and househould items.
- Build and expand contact with area shelteres, transitional housing programs and landlords/owners.
- Maintain accurate records and files. Attend in-service and meetings regularly.
- Generally, the population at the Dorothy Day House is low income women and children. The Advocate/Counselor will receive regular inservices offered by the Center and Catholic Charities, as well as training on women's issues and crisis intervention. The Advocate/Counselor! will also recieve a minimum of 4 weekend long enrichment programs (retreats) throughout the year.
