This position is a two part position
I. Asian Apostolate
Under the direction of Sr. Judith Howley, CSJ, the Asian Apostolate for the Syracuse Diocese is a multi-faceted program which includes ministry to young people and families of Asian ancestry. The Apostolate is headquartered at St. John the Evangelist parish in downtown Syracuse. The FrancisCorps volunteer position is Assistant Director.
The Assistant Director will aid Sr. Judy in coordinating all program activities with specific outreach to children and teens. Opportunities for tutoring and mentoring in both academic and recreational programs make up a major portion of this ministry appointment. The Assistant Director will also coordinate a sports program with other Diocesan youth programs and have the opportunity to make home visits. The FrancisCorps volunteer ministers here every afternoon, Monday thru Friday.
II. Refugee Resettlement
The second part of this position is with the Refugee Resettlement Program sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Syracuse Diocese. The FC volunteer ministers at the Refugee Resettlement office every morning from approximately 8:30 to 12 noon. The position is multi-faceted and includes coordinating the AOR's (Affidavit of Relation)...refugee families who want to bring family members into this country must complete this paperwork, etc. After that, the FC volunteer becomes a case worker where he/she helps finds jobs, housing, schooling... for the incoming refugee family and even assists in moving furniture etc. The FrancisCorps volunteer ministers at Refugee Resettlement every morning from about 8:30
to noon.
