Catholic Franciscan Volunteer Service Experience for Post-Graduate Young Adults| Costa Rica & New York

Our Secret Weapon: 2 short Franciscans

January 22, 2014

Sister Caryn & Friar Rick

Determined, Caring, Sassy, Gentle, Honest, Real, Down-to-Earth, Fun…and yes, short; those are just some of the words used to describe the fierce duo of Friar Rick and Sister Caryn. Friar Rick is the Director of FrancisCorps and Sister Caryn is the main Co-Minister are part of the “difference” that makes FrancisCorps unique. These two Franciscans are the one who recruit the volunteers, accept them into the program, facilitate the orientation and the other 5 retreats during the year. It’s Sister Caryn and Friar Rick who are there throughout the year to support the volunteers. This continuity from recruitment to the Transition retreat at the end of the year provides an invaluable support to the volunteers.

In both the Central New York and Costa Rica sites of FrancisCorps there are lots of other people to support the volunteers as well. The friars at the Assumption Friary in Syracuse, NY and the Sisters of St. Francis are very much present in the lives of the volunteers. In Costa Rica it’s the young friars of the Asuncion Convento that offer that same support along with the dedicated group of Franciscan Young Adults. Our Alums and benefactors are also amazing resources that support our volunteers in their journey.
