Great news to share

December 24, 2013

On this Christmas Eve, news just arrived from the Nuncio in Costa Rica that one of the friars in Costa Rica, Enrique Montero, OFM Conv., has been named the new Bishop of the Diocese of San Isidro de El General. The announcement was made at 12:00 noon today at the Vatican (6:00am EST). The ordination will take place in the Cathedral of San Isidro on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

Our congratulations and prayers go out to our brother. There is no doubt that Enrique will serve the local Church with the same generosity, dedication and humility that he has so beautifully demonstrated in his many years of service to the Order in Costa Rica, Rome, Asia and Africa. Enrique will serve in the Diocese where the first Conventual Franciscan missionaries from North America arrived in 1946 and where friars ministered for many years in places such as Quepos, Golfito, Ciudad Neilly and Puerto Jiménez. They remained in this Diocese until 1996 when they withdrew from Golfito and Ciudad Neilly.

FrancisCorps works closely with the friars in Costa Rica and we are very happy to share in this great blessing on the broader Franciscan family.

Enrique Montero, OFM Conv.

¡ENRIQUE, FELICIDADES y QUE DIOS TE BENDIGA Y AYUDE!
