FrancisCorps volunteers reflect deeply on the experiences they are having in service and in community. In this reflection, Corrinne reflects on the importance, or lack there of, of all her “stuff”.
Corrinne is spending her FrancisCorps experience serving at Vincent House. Vincent house is an after school program run by Catholic Charities of Onondaga County. Vincent House serves a population of low-income families on the West Side of Syracuse, many of which are Latino. Through Vincent House students from Pre-Kindergarten to middle school are provided many educational and social activities that will enhance development in both areas.
As a FrancisCorps volunteer at Vincent House, you will have a number of service opportunities including organizing in-center activities and local community excursions, working with special needs children and assisting with simple office duties and/or public relation tasks. Through your service, you will provide a supportive, safe, and nurturing environment for children who may not otherwise have one. Vincent House provides volunteers an opportunity to minister to children and would be of special interest to volunteers with an interest in education, Spanish, or Social Work. Spanish would be an asset at this site but is not required.
